Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan eliminated 70 positions across several departments, BCBS corporate affairs director and spokesperson Helen Stojic told Becker's Hospital Review.
Here are three things to know about the layoffs.
1. The changes are part of BCBS of Michigan's three-year plan, unveiled in 2015, to cut $300 million in costs by 2018.
2. Ms. Stojic told Becker's, "This effort is in keeping with the company's commitment to examine its business processes on a continuous basis to determine if they are as cost-effective, competitive, innovative and efficient as possible."
3. The most recent layoffs represent 1 percent of BCBS of Michigan's 7,600-plus employees. Crain's Detroit Business, which has tracked layoffs related to BCBS of Michigan's cost-cutting plan since January 2016, placed the total at 120.
