The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and rideshare company Lyft forged a nationwide partnership to enhance healthcare access in communities lacking reliable transportation.
Under the partnership, BCBSA will integrate Lyft's rideshare services into its delivery model during the next several months at select Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. The service, which is free for policyholders, aims to reduce the number of missed appointments due to patients' inadequate access to walking, biking or public transportation routes.
The insurer said combining BCBSA's local data "on issues such as transportation, nutrition and the environment" will allow the partnership to "focus at a ZIP code-level on the community factors that have the most dramatic impact on individual health."
