Anthem CEO Joe Swedish: 58% of business in alternative payment models

Fifty-eight percent of reimbursements from Indianapolis-based Anthem are linked to value-based care models, 75 percent of which are shared savings, shared risk and population-based payment models, Anthem CEO Joseph Swedish said on the first-quarter earnings call this week, according to a report from Forbes.

"We've got over 64,000 providers now engaged in ACOs and patient-centered medical homes who are accountable for cost and quality of care for over 5.5 million commercial members, which is a huge uptick compared to prior years," Mr. Swedish said, according to Forbes.

The company operates 159 ACOs across the country as part of its move into value-based care, according to the report. Competitors Aetna and UnitedHealth Group are also moving in the same direction, Forbes notes, but Anthem uniquely offered details into its progress in this round of earnings reports.
