Aetna, Trinity Health hospital tack 1-month extension on negotiation deadline

Aetna and Syracuse, N.Y.-based St. Joseph's Health, a 431-bed, Trinity Health-owned hospital, announced a one-month extension to their current contract as they continue negotiations.

The parties' current contract was set to expire at the end of 2021, but has been extended until Jan. 31 to provide 15,000 patients with undisturbed care, according to syracuse.com

"We are actively working with Aetna to reach an agreement on a new contract that would prevent any disruption to patient care," St. Joseph's Health told syracuse.com in a statement. "[The extension will] provide more time to accomplish the work that is needed to achieve a new agreement."

The provider is one of several Trinity Health hospitals to push against Aetna on contracts. St. Joseph's Health initially threatened to cut ties with Aetna in October.
