From continued expansions of Medicare Advantage plans across the country to Michigan forcing a payer to cease all operations, these are 11 recent moves by insurers to exit or enter markets:
1. Health Care Service Corp. is looking to expand its Medicare Advantage offerings to an additional 1.1 million Medicare-eligible individuals in 150 counties across Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
2. St. Luke's Health System in Boise, Idaho will begin offering its first health plans in 2023 in 20 counties across the state. The nonprofit St. Luke's Health Plan will be offered both on and off the exchange, and employer plans for large and small groups will also be available. Eventually, a Medicare Advantage offering will be considered.
3. Moda Health plans to begin offering individual and group plans in Boise and Pocatello, Idaho, in 2023. The Portland, Ore.-based company is also launching an association plan in the group market in Austin, Texas next year after first expanding to the state in 2021, according to the Portland Business Journal.
4. SCAN Health Plan is looking to offer Medicare Advantage plans in Harris and Bexar counties in Texas. The payer will also expand its Medicare Advantage offerings into Nevada's Nye County, pending CMS approval.
5. Centene subsidiary Ambetter will enter the individual ACA marketplace for 2023 in Berks County, Pa.
6. Cigna + Oscar will enter the small group ACA marketplace for 2023 in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania.
7. UnitedHealthcare is reentering the individual ACA marketplace in 33 Missouri counties for 2023, including the Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield and Joplin areas.
8. Anthem and ConnectiCare Benefits will offer individual and small group ACA plans in Connecticut for 2023.
9. Harvard Pilgrim Health Care is leaving the Connecticut market and will only renew existing plans through their plan years.
10. Salvasen Health was ordered to cease all operations in Michigan by the state's insurance department July 25 for selling health plans without a license.
11. Nationwide is partnering with supplemental insurance providers Brella and AccuRisk Solutions to offer its own supplemental health plan in several states.
