10 states with least competitive insurance markets

Alabama had the least competitive commercial health insurance market in 2018, according to a study published by the American Medical Association.

AMA came to this conclusion after analyzing market concentration in 382 metropolitan areas across the nation. AMA estimated that 73 million Americans with commercial health plans live in highly concentrated markets and don't have many health plans to choose from. 

Here are the 10 states where health insurance markets were least competitive:

1. Alabama
2. Louisiana
3. Hawaii
4. Delaware
5. South Carolina
6. Michigan
7. Alaska
8. Kentucky
9. North Dakota
10. Illinois
