Empire BCBS expands at-home care services with DocGo deal

Empire BlueCross BlueShield members have access to DocGo at-home care services through a multiyear agreement with the New York City-based mobile health service provider starting June 1. Empire's commercial, Medicare and Medicaid enrollees in New York will have access to DocGo's services that include preventive care, urgent episodic care and chronic care management services. Medicaid enrollees in New Jersey will also have access.

Humana partnership to invest $1.2B on 100 more value-based primary care clinics for seniors

Humana and New York City-based investment firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe said May 16 they have established a second joint venture to build more value-based primary care clinics for Medicare patients. The partnership will invest $1.2 billion to develop approximately 100 new clinics between 2023 and 2025 and operate them to profitability. The investment firm will have majority ownership and Humana will have a minority stake, but the clinics will be operated under Humana's CenterWell Senior Primary Care brand. Previously, Humana and WCAS invested $800 million to open 67 clinics by early next year.

Guidewell, Highmark lead $35M investment round in kidney care company

GuideWell and Highmark Ventures led a $35 million funding round for kidney population health management company Healthmap Solutions. The Tampa, Fla.-based company said May 2 it will use the funding to fuel additional growth. The company had 60 employees in the summer of 2020 and plans to have over 500 by the end of 2022. By then, Healthmap will have more than 150,000 members under contract across commercial, Medicare and Medicaid lines. 

Blue Cross partnership helps Medicare Advantage members apply for government aid

Independence Blue Cross said May 16 it is partnering with New York City-based Uno Health to help enroll Medicare Advantage members into Medicaid, SNAP and Lifeline programs. 

Northwell Health expands patient care to Dominican Republic citizens

New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health said May 12 it is collaborating with Dominican Republic-based payer Seguros Reservas to expand patient care to residents of the Caribbean country. Northwell and Seguros Reservas signed a direct services agreement that allows for Seguros Reservas members with a JUST plan to travel to any Northwell hospital for treatment. 

BCBS Massachusetts expands mental healthcare provider network

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts said May 4 it is expanding its mental health provider network to include specialists who focus on obsessive-compulsive disorder, serious mental illness, trauma and substance use disorders. The providers now in-network include Thriveworks, Headway, Refresh Mental Health and Valera Health. BCBS has also contracted with specialty mental health provider organizations that provide care for specific conditions like obsessive-compulsive disorder and substance use disorder, including NOCD and Forge Health.

United Physicians, Agilon Health partner to build value-based primary care system for Medicare Advantage patients

Bingham Farms, Mich.-based United Physicians and Austin, Texas-based Agilon Health said May 3 they have entered a long-term partnership to transition United's primary care delivery system for Medicare Advantage patients to a full-risk value-based care model.

Philadelphia Blue Cross collaboration targets disparities in cancer screenings, deaths

Independence Blue Cross said April 28 it is partnering with the nonprofit Colorectal Cancer Alliance for a new screening and prevention program to increase screening rates and decrease deaths among Black Philadelphians. The three-year, $2.5 million pilot program, Cycles of Impact, aims to screen at least 2,400 Philadelphia residents and prevent at least 60 cancer diagnoses.

BCBS of Michigan, physician services group team up on Medicare value-based contracts

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan said April 25 it is partnering with Nashville, Tenn.-based Honest Medical Group to ease physicians' transition to value-based care for Medicare and Medicare Advantage patients. Honest Medical Group will provide financial and human resources to assist practices during the transformation. 

Blue Care Network launches genetic testing pilot program to personalize members' medicine

Detroit-based Blue Care Network said April 5 it is launching a precision medicine program, Blue Cross Personalized Medicine, that uses pharmacogenomics to personalize and tailor medication treatments for members. The HMO subsidiary of BCBS of Michigan is basing the treatments on a review of members' prescribed medications for diagnoses, including behavioral health, cardiology, cardiovascular and oncology. OneOme, a Minneapolis-based biotechnology company, is facilitating the program.
